Abstract

Background: Diabetes mellitus is a group of symptoms that arise in a person caused by the presence of elevated blood sugar levels due to insulin deficiency both absolute and relative terms. In the case of diabetes will experience unstable blood glucose levels where the value of blood sugar levels are above or below the range of normal values. One herbal therapy to overcome the instability of blood sugar levels is to use a decoction of leaves are rich in antidiabetics. Objective: Describing nursing care in patients with diabetes mellitus type II in fulfilling the nutritional needs. Method: This study used the descriptive case study method. Data collected through observation, interview and physical examination. The subject is 2 clients with Type 2 diabetes mellitus with blood glucose levels > 150 mg/dl. The instruments used in blood sugar measuring instruments and tools to stew bay leaves. Measurement of blood sugar levels before and after treatment decoction of leaves. Results: In this case study shows there is a decrease in blood sugar levels after 7 days using bay leaf decoction. Client I 308 mg / dl to 192 mg / dl whereas the second client 253 mg / dl to 148 mg / dl. Conclusion: Application of bay leaf decoction can lower blood sugar levels in patients with diabetes mellitus type II Recommendation: It is expected for the next researcher can apply a bay leaf decoction effectiveness for lowering blood sugar levels in patients with type II diabetes.
