Abstract

Background:Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a metabolic disease characterized by hyperglycemia due to the pancreas not producing enough insulin. Diabetes Mellitus is a disease that can not be cured, and can only be controlled by maintaining blood sugar levels remain normal, so that some patients experience boredom in undergoing diabetes mellitus diits. Objective:Knowing powerlessness in people with diabetes mellitus who are cared for at the Griya Saras Bruno Purworejo Method:This type of research used in this research is quantitative research using descriptive analytic methods. The sample in this study was 40 patients. This sample was taken using total sampling, this research usingBeck Hopelessness Scale quisioner with 20 item questions.Analysis of data using a computer program that is SPSS. Results:Based on the results of the study it was found that the majority of respondents aged between 51 to 60 years were 17 (42.5%), the majority sex was female as many as 25 (62.5%), for the majority of education was elementary school as many as 17 (42.5%), and for majority marital status was married with a number of 26 (65.0%), the level of helplessness in patients with diabetes mellitus who underwent treatment at the Bruno Saras Griya Clinic had the most powerlessness in the mild category with a number of 23 respondents (57.5%). Conclusion: eldery with diabtes mellitus who participate in prolanist activities can reduce level of helplessness
