Abstract

Background: Chronic Kidney Failure is a non-communicable disease that has become a public health problem in the world. Patients need motivation to undergo hemodialysis therapy. Patients who undergo hemodialysis therapy 2-3 times a week will experience burnout during the therapy process. Factors related to patient motivation to undergo hemodialysis therapy are basic human needs, access to services, nursing services, family support. Objective: To determine the determinants of factors related to patient motivation to undergo hemodialysis therapy at PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong Hospital. Methods: This research is a descriptive quantitative study with a cross sectional approach. The study population was 263 patients with 30 patients (purposive sampling). The research instrument used a questionnaire. Data were analyzed by univariate, bivariate using chi square test, and multivariate using logistic regression. Results: There is a relationship between basic human needs, access to services, and family support with patient motivation to undergo hemodialysis therapy. There is no relationship between nursing care and patient motivation to undergo hemodialysis therapy. Family support is the most dominant factor related to patient motivation to undergo hemodialysis therapy. Patients who get good category family support, 23 times the chance to have high motivation for hemodialysis therapy. Recommendation: The results of this study are expected to be preliminary data for future researchers on factors related to patient motivation in undergoing hemodialysis therapy, such as age, gender and education.
