Abstract

Background: The number of the elderly population in the worldwide increases year by year. In 2020, it is predicted at around 27.08 million people. The elderly group has potential problems with their physical and psychological that will be affected by the quality of life. The family of the elderly must be participated in providing care to the elderly. Objective: To find out the relationship of family health care and the quality of life of elderly. Methods: This study was a descriptive correlational research design with a cross-sectional approach. Research subjects were elderly people who live with families in the Penusupan Village, Sruweng Sub-District. They selected by purposive sampling technique, there were 66 respondents joined here. The instruments of this study used the family function and WHO-QOL questionnaire. Data analysis used the Spearman rank test. Results: All respondents were aged 60-74 years old. The family health care functions in all respondents as followed, a total of 53 elderly were in the good category (80.3%), 10 elderly were in the moderate category (15.2%), and only 3 elderly were in less category (4.5%). While The quality of life elderly was of 43 respondents in good category (65.2%), and 23 respondents in low quality (34.8%). There was a significant relationship between the family health care function and the quality of life of the elderly (p-value = 0,000). Conclusion: There was a significant relationship between the family health care function and the quality of life of elderly Recommendation: Future researchers will be expected to find out the influence factors toward family health care function of the elderly.
