Abstract

Background, Citronella leaf essential oil (Cymbopogon citratus (DC.) Stapf) and ethanol extract of fragrant pandan leaves (Pandanus amaryllifolius Roxb.) are plants that can inhibit antibacterials that cause body odor, one of which is Staphylococcus epidermidis. Research purpose, This study aims to determine the essential oil of lemongrass (Cymbopogon citratus (DC.) Stapf) and ethanol extract of fragrant pandan leaves (Pandanus amaryllifolius Roxb.) can be combined and can be used to treat body odor. Methods, This type of research is a laboratory experimental, the extract obtained using 96% ethanol as solvent. Phytochemical screening was performed. Liquid soap preparations were made and physical tests were made. The negative control used a dosage base without extract, the positive control used detol liquid soap, and formulas 1, 2, 3, each using a concentration of citronella leaf essential oil 0.25, 0.5 and 1%, while the fragrant pandan leaves 1, 2, and 4 were used. %. Then tested using the pour plate test and the One Way Anova test. Results, The results showed that the liquid soap preparations met the standard of physical test preparations and formula 1 had an average inhibition zone of 6.75 mm, formula 2 was 6.75 mm and formula 3 was 7.25 mm. The negative control had a significant difference with the positive control, formulas 1, 2, and 3 because the p value <0.05. In the comparison of positive control with negative control, formulas 1, 2, and 3 have significant differences because the p value <0.05. But in the comparison of formulas 1, 2, and 3 there is no significant difference because the p value> 0.05. Conclusion, Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that all liquid soap formulations of formulas 1, 2, and 3 meet the standard of physical test preparations and have moderate antibacterial activity. Recommendation, It is necessary to conduct further research on the antibacterial activity of essential oils of lemongrass and pandan leaves using different concentrations, solvents and preparations.
