Abstract

Background : Skin damage usually is caused by the presence of free radicals that enter the skin layer. Therefore, compounds are needed that can capture free radicals that exist on the skin. Plants that have potential as antioxidants are ganitri leaves. Purpose : This study aims to make a lotion preparation of methanol extract of ganitri leaves (Elaeocarpus ganitrus Roxb.) which has good physical and antioxidant properties. Method : Lotion preparations were made with variations emulsifier of TEA and stearic acid, then physical tests were carried out including organoleptic, pH, viscosity, emulsion type, homogeneity, spreadability, adhesion, protection, irritasion and hedonic. The best formula was tested for antioxidant activity using the DPPH method. Result : The test result of the tube and Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC) test showed that in the methanol extract of ganitri leaves there were flavonoid coumponds. Statistic test result show that all formulas have a significant difference with p value <0,05. This shows that the TEA and stearic acid base affect the physical properties of the lotion preparation. The formula was tested for antioxidant activity using the DPPH method with a comparison of vitamin C. Formula 1 has an IC50 value of 9,00 ppm. Conclucion : Ganitri leaf methanol extract lotion formula with variations emusifier of TEA 1 gram and stearic acid 4,5 grams is fomula that has the best physical properties and very strong category of antioxidant activity. Suggestion : Suggest to perform extraction with other solvents and test the antioxidant activity using ABTS and FRAP
