Abstract

Background : Inflammation is one of the main problems in the world of health. The inflammatory process can be inhibited with anti-inflammatory drugs. The use of antiinflammatory has dangerous side effect, so it takes anti-inflammatory which is safer for the body. Plants that have potential as anti-inflammatory are ganitri leaves (Elaeocarpus ganitrus Roxb.). Objective : This study aims to make ointment preparations that have good physical properties and to determine the anti-inflammatory activity of the ointment against carrageenan-induced Wistar rats. Methods : Anti-inflammatory ointment preparations were made with various extract concentration of 0.5%, 1%, and 2% which were then carried out by physical tests of the preparations including organoleptic test, homogeneity, spreadability, adhesion, viscosity, pH, and stability. The ointment formulas were then tested for anti-inflammatory activity using the carrageenan method. Result : The test results showed that the aquadest extract of ganitri (Elaeocarpus ganitrus Roxb.) leaves contained flavonoid compounds that act as anti-inflammatory. Physicaal evaluation of the ointment showed that the formulas did not meet all test standars. The antiinflammatory formula gave good result in formula 2 and formula 3 as evidenced by p>0.05 Conclusion : Ganitri leaf aquadest extract ointment has a poor evaluation of physicl preparations in the adhesion test and viscosity test and has good anti-inflammatory activity in formulas 2 and 3. Suggestion : Suggest to make ointments with different formuls and test anti-inflammatory activity using other methods.
