Abstract
Background: Traditional medicine is an ingredient or medicine in the form of plant material, animal material, mineral material, preparation of extracts (gelenik) or mixtures which have been used for generations as treatment, and have been regulated in accordance with the provisions and regulations that apply to the community. Based on a preliminary study that the people in Sibalung Hamlet, Sikanco Village, Nusawungu District, Cilacap Regency, they are not very familiar with the types of traditional medicine or people only know the term with herbal medicine and from these results, a study was conducted to determine the description of knowledge and use of traditional medicine in the community in Sibalung Village. Sikanco, Nusawungu District, Cilacap Regency. Research Objectives: The purpose of this study was to determine the level of knowledge and use of traditional medicine and to determine the socio demographic factors affecting the level of knowledge and use of traditional medicine in Sikanco Village. Research Methods: This research is a descriptive qualitative research, conducted by covering surveys with data collection techniques in the form of questionnaires to 138 respondents. The data obtained were analyzed using the Chi-square test. Research Results: The results of the study that the level of knowledge of the community at most lacked knowledge as many as 101 (73.2%) respondents and for sufficient use as many as 74 (53.6%). there is a relationship between the characteristics of the level of knowledge and the use of traditional medicine with a p-value of 0.000 <0.05 which can be concluded that there is a fairly close relationship. Conclusion : The level of knowledge of the use of traditional medicine in the people of Sikanco Village, Nusawungu District, Cilacap Regency still has less knowledge as many as 110 (53.6%) respondents. Recommendation: It is necessary to conduct further research related to the knowledge and use of traditional medicines other than herbal medicine in the community
