Abstract
Background: World Health Organization (WHO) in 2018 there are about 20 million children in the world who have not been fully immunized, some are not even immunized at all. Meanwhile in Indonesia has a low DPT-HB-Hib immunization coverage of 61.3%, making it the top 5 countries with the lowest immunization coverage rates in East Asia and the Pacific. The baby's life is 90% in the first year immunized by injection. The injection of immunization causes an immediate reaction in the form of pain, swelling, and redness. If the pain is not treated, it may have short and long terms effects. Non-pharmacological treatment can be conducted to reduce the pain, i. e. by breastfeeding and applying cold compress methods. Objective: To know the application of breastfeeding and cold compress methods to reduce the pain caused by DPT-HB-Hib immunization. Method: This study is a qualitative descriptive with a case study approach. The participants were 3 babies in accordance with the inculcation criteria. The instrument was the FLACC pain scale. The data was obtained from interview, observation and documentation. Result: After the application of breastfeeding and cold compress, 2 participants had medium pain caused by DPT-HB-Hib immunization (66.6%), and 1 participant had mild pain (33.3%). Conclusion: The application of breastfeeding and cold compress methods can reduce the pain caused by DPT-HB-Hib immunization
