Abstract

Background: Hypertension is a condition of increasing one's blood pressure above normal limits. It can lead to the increasing morbidity and mortality. Usually there are signs and symptoms of hypertension patients, such as acute head pain. Head pain happens due to blockages in blood vessels that can cause changes in blood vessels and vasoconstriction. Then for pain management, non-pharmacological therapy can be applied, that is by conducting hot pack therapy. Objective: Applying hot pack for hypertension patients with acute head pain disorder. Method: This scientific paper is a qualitative descriptive with a case study approach. Data were obtained through interviews, observation, and physical examination. The participants were 3 elderly having hypertension. The instruments used were hot pack, observation sheets, pain scale. SOP. Result: Based on the evaluation carried out for 3 meetings, there was a decrease in the pain scale: from 3 to 0 (participant 1), from 2 to 0 (participant 2), and from 2 to 0 (participant 3). Recommendation: Elderly having hypertension with acute head pain is advised to do hot pack therapy for approximately 10-15 minutes to reduce pain intensity.
