Abstract

Background: Family planning is an effort to regulate the birth of children, the ideal distance and age to give birth, and to regulate pregnancy. This can be done through promotion, protection and assistance in accordance to reproductive rights to create a qualified family. Meanwhile, one of the family planning contraceptives widely used is DMPA injection. Though it is effective, many acceptors complain on the side effects, such as headache, weight gain, nausea, breast pain, irregular menstruation, vaginal spotting, mood changes and decreasing sexual arousal. Objective: To find out the application of leaflet media on the side effects of 3 month-injection contraceptive for increasing knowledge of family planning acceptors. Method: This study is a qualitative descriptive with a case study approach. Data was obtained from observation and literary study. The participants were 3 family planning acceptors who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The instruments used were participant consent sheet dan questionnaire. Result: After applying leaflet media for two weeks, there was an increase in knowledge of all participants: from score 24 became score 28 (participant 1), from score 15 became score 25 (participant 2), from score 17 became score 25 (participant 3). Conclusion: Application of leaflet media can improve the knowlwdge of family planning acceptors about about side effects of 3 month-injection contraceptive.
