Abstract

Background: Poor elasticity of perineum during delivery process can trigger perineal rupture and lead to a long delivery. Perineal rupture is a tear in the birth canal during delivery and will widen if the baby's head comes out faster. Normal delivery is labor with a maximum time of 12 hours for primi and 8 hours for multi. This can be overcome by applying perineum massage using olive oil which serves to flex the perineal muscle tissue. Objective: To find out that perineum massage using olive oil can speed up the delivery process. Method: This scientific paper uses a case study approach. The data were obtained from interview, observation, literary study. The instruments used were observation sheets and check-list sheets. The participants were 3 giving birth mothers. Result: After having application of perineum massage, 2 participants experienced perineal rupture, and the delivery was in 15 minutes. Meanwhile, 1 participant did not experience perineal rupture and the delivery was in 20 minutes. Conclusion: The application of perineum massage using olive oil is effective for accelerating delivery process.
