Abstract

Background: Hypertension is a condition that the blood pressure is at the normal threshold. Nonpharmacological thrapy can be an alternative to prevent complication of hypertension. This can done by soaking the foot in warm water (39-40⁰C). Scientifically, warm water has a physiological impact on the body. First, it affects the blood vessels where the warm water makes blood circulation smooth. Warm water can also stabilize blood flow and heart work and finaly the loading in the water will strengthen the muscles and ligaments that affect the joints of human body. Objective: To describe nursing care by applying foot-soak therapy with warm water to decrease the blood pressure of hypertensive elderly. Method: This study is a qualitative descriptive with a case study approach. Data was collected by conducting interviews, observation, and documentation. Respondents were 3 clients who suffered from hypertension. The instruments used were nursing care format, SOP, and observation sheets. Result: After applying foot-soak therapy with warm water, there was a decrease in blood pressure of the elderly with hypertension: from 155/90 mmHg to 150/90 mmHg (client 1), from 145/90 mmHg to 140/90 mmHg (client 2), and from 135/90 mmHg to 130/90 mmHg (client 3). Recommendation: Foot-soak therapy with warm water can be apllied independently at home to decease the blood pressure.
