Abstract

Background: Immunization is an action that can cause discomfort in children because it causes pain. This action will make the child continue to cry and cannot be silent, thus hampering the immunization process if it is not handled. Breastfeeding technique is a non-pharmacological technique that is easy for mothers to do. This action aims to reduce pain and provide comfort through direct contact with parents and children. Research objectives: This case study describes the results of breastfeeding on the pain response when given injection immunization. Methods: This type of reserch is descriptive with a case study approach, the data collection process uses interview, observation and physical examination techniques. The instrument used in this case study is an assessment instrument using anamnesis, observation sheets and nursing care formats and standard operating procedures (SOP). Respondents in this study consisted of 3 clients who were given immunizations with complaints of pain. Breastfeeding technique is given after immunization for 5 minutes. Pain was measured using the Flacc scale and recorded in the observation sheet for 3 days. Results: The results of this study found that the brestfeeding technique during the immunization procedure reduces pain in children (point 2) which indicates mild pressure. Conclusion: Breastfeeding can reduce the pain felt in children when given immunization. Recommendation: Future researchers can develop a pain response during infusion or blood collection.
