Abstract

Background: Based on the Central Statistics Agency (2019), the persentage of elderly people in Indonesia reaches 25,64 million, in Central Java Province it reaches 13,36% and in Petanahan District of Kebumen as many as 688 people. One of the most common psychological problems is loneliness. Loneliness is a person’s feeling that he is far from the environment, family, partner, and feels unnoticed. Objective: Determining the difference in the level of loneliness in the elderly which living alone with the elderly living with family in Karangduwur Village Petanahan District of Kebumen. Research Methods: This study used a quantitative method with a Cross-sectional approach. Sampling used purposive sampling technique and obtained a sample of 88 respondents. Data collection used a loneliness level questionnaire. Data analysis used Independent Sample t-Test. Results : Most of the elderly experience loneliness in the moderate category, where 61,4% of the elderly live alone and 79,5% of the elderly live with their families from each group of 44 respondents. Conclusion: The results of this study indicate that there is difference in the level of loneliness in the elderly living alone with the elderly living with family in Karangduwur Village, Petanahan Kebumen with the acquisition of a significance value of Independent Sample t-Test 0.000 (< 0.05). Recommendation: For further researchers it can be used family support and gender variables that can affect the level of loneliness in the elderly.
