Abstract

Background: Postpartum period is a critical period for postpartum mothers. They usually feel very tired and anxious. After the labor process, they will have physical and psychological changes. Although these changes are usually considered as a positive experience, they need physical, psychological and social adaptation which are not easy. The postpartum period is recognized as a period of high risk for the development of various mood disorders, including postpartum blues, major depression, and postpartum psychosis. To find out psychological disorders experienced by postpartum mothers is by conducting EPDS screening. Objective: To know the application of EPDS screening upon the psychological condition of postpartum mothers. Method: This paper is a qualitative descriptive with a case study approach. Data was obtained from interviews, questionnaires and literary study. The participants were 6 postpartum mothers who met the inclusion criteria. The instruments used were questionnaires, and stationery. Result: After having the application of EPDS screening, 4 participants experienced postpartum blues in the first week and 2 participants were in normal condition. In the second week all participants were in normal condition. Conclusion: The application of EPDS screening can be used to know for psychological disorders of postpartum mothers.
