Abstract

Background: Diabetes mellitus is a chronic disease, which is caused by an increase in blood glucose levels, which is ranked as the 4th most fatal disease in the world. They usually have unstable blood glucose levels. One way to control blood glucose levels in patients with diabetes mellitus is diabetes self-care. Objective: Knowing the relationship of self care in patients with diabetes mellitus with blood glucose levels at PKU Muhammadiyah Hospital Gombong. Research Methods: In this research, the researcher uses a cross-sectional approach, a correlation study involving two variables reveals the correlation between variables, and collects data within a certain period of time. The sample in this study amounted to 50 respondents who were taken using purposive sampling method. The research instrument used a DMSQ (Diabetes Self-Management Questionnaire) questionnaire and data on the respondents' blood glucose levels in the last 3 examinations. Data were analyzed using the chi-square test. Results: The results of the chi square statistical test obtained a significance value (p = 0.004 < 0.05), thus the results of data analysis showed that Ho was rejected and Ha was accepted, which means that there is a relationship between Self Care and Blood Glucose Levels in Diabetes Mellitus Patients at PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong. The correlation coefficient of this study is positive (+), namely 0.004 which means that the relationship between the two variables is unidirectional and the strength of the correlation is strong. Conclusion: There is a relationship between self care in patients with diabetes mellitus and blood glucose levels at PKU Muhammadiyah Hospital of Gombong. Recommendation: : Future researchers are expected to develop research which effected to self care in patients with diabetes mellitus with blood glucose levels at PKU Muhammadiyah Hospital of Gombong.
