Abstract
Background: Head injury remains as global health problem resulting in death, disability, and mental deficits. It is the leading cause of death of disability at young ages. The common clinical manifestations of severe head injury are secondary brain injury, cerebral edema, increase of intracranial pressure, vasospasm, hydrocephalus, metabolic disorders, infection and seizures. Early management of severe head injury with respiratory disorder is patients’ head elevation on the bed to get adequate oxygen and prevent the increasing of intracranial pressure. Objective: This study aims at evaluating changes in intracranial pressure increasing symptoms of head injury patients after 15-300 elevation position at emergency room, dr. Sudirman Hospital of Kebumen. Methods: The study is an experimental research with cross sectional approach. The samples were 18 respondents taken by accidental sampling technique. Data were collected by observation sheet and analyzed using T test. Results: The results of the study consisted of an average value of pre and post head elevation intracranial pressure increasing symptoms. Before head elevation showed an average value of 7.28 while the average value after showed 1.89. There were significant difference statistically between both results indicated by p value of 0.000 (< 0.05). Conclusion: There was significant influence of head elevation to the decrease of intracranial pressure in patients with severe head injuries at dr. Sudirman state hospital of Kebumen
