Abstract
Background: The wood processing industry makes environmental pollution caused by air pollution (13%) and risks respiratory diseases like upper respiratory tract infections. Every year they are 160 cases of respiratory disorders in Wood processing industry workers. A mask is one personal protective equipment (PPE) used to reduce wood dust entering the lungs. A lot of workers have little awareness about the importance of using a mask when they are working. Objective: To identify the relationship between mask usage and the risk of upper respiratory tract infections in wood industry workers on Wadaslintang subdistrict. Method: This research used the descriptive relationship method with a crosssectional approach. Thirty-eight respondents were recruited in this study. Results: Study results showed a relationship between both variables with the Chi- Square test p-value=0,025. Conclusion: There was a significant relationship between mask usage on the risk of upper respiratory tract infections in wood industry workers on Wadaslintang sub-district. Recommendations: The owner of the wood industry are expected to provide personal protective equipment (PPE) such as masks and giving knowledge to workers about the importance of PPE usage when working.
