Abstract

Background, Osteoarthritis affects 713,783 people in Indonesia with 67,977 of them in Central Java. Therapy that can be applied to people with osteoarthritis’s pain is a warm compress. Warm compresses include an effective intervention as a pain reliever. Objective, Describing the results of the application of nursing care at the stage of development of elderly families with nursing problems for acute osteoarthritis’s pain by giving warm compresses of red ginger boiled water therapy. Research Method, This scientific work used a descriptive method with a case study approach. The sample was 5 elderly people in the developmental stage of elderly families with osteoarthritis pain. Case study instrument using warm compress SOP and NRS observation sheet. Results, The priority nursing diagnosis in osteoarthritis patients is acute pain associated with physiological injury agents. The intervention carried out was a warm compress of red ginger boiled water. The implementation was carried out for 5 days with a frequency of giving warm compresses 2 times a day in the morning and evening. The results of the evaluation in 5 patients who had been given warm compress therapy showed an indication of a decrease in pain from the moderate to mild category. Recommendation, The results of this nursing care can be used as a reference for the preparation of SOPs for managing osteoarthritis pain by using a warm compress of red ginger boiled water.
