Abstract

Background: Low birth weight (LBW) is a baby born weighing less than 2500 grams regardless of gestational age. Babies with LBW can experience respiratory problems and have long-term consequences on the growth and development of children in the future. Management of LBW with an ineffective breathing pattern is very useful for reducing the feeling of shortness of breath due to an increase in the patient's perceived breathing pattern. The management is by giving O2 and one of them is by Nesting. Based on the results of the preliminary study, 14 cases of LBW patients with ineffective breathing patterns were obtained in March 2021 in the Amanah room of the PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong Hospital. Objective: Explaining the nursing care about giving nesting to low birth weight babies with ineffective breathing patterns. Methods: This study used a descriptive method by analyzing nesting in low birth weight infants with ineffective breathing patterns. The results of Nursing Care: In this case study of the five patients were ineffective breathing patterns, the interventions given were: pharmacological therapy as recommended, and non-pharmacological techniques: Nesting 3x24 hours 30 minutes, and monitored RR (Respiratory Rate) before and after the procedure. Of the five low birth weight babies with ineffective breathing patterns experienced a decrease in RR, after nesting nursing showed a decrease in RR 18-24 x/minute. Recommendation: The results of this study can be applied to low birth weight infants with ineffective breathing patterns to reduce respiratory rate by non-pharmacological methods.
