Abstract

Background: Typhoid fever is an acute systemic infectious disease caused by Salmonella typhi bacteria, with signs of fever for more than one week, chills, headache or dizziness, and gastrointestinal disturbances. Objective: To explain nursing care of typhoid patients with hyperthermia by giving onion compress in Inayah Room at PKU Muhammadiyah Hospital of Gombong. Method: The study was a case study approach with descriptive method. The instruments were observation sheets and onion compress tool. Subjects consisted of 5 typhoid patients with hyperthermia. Result: The main nursing problem taken by the author was hyperthermia. After nursing treatments for 3 days, it was found that the administration of onion compress therapy reduce fever in typhoid patients. Recommendation: The result can be used as reference for the preparation of Standard Operating Procedures to reduce fever of typhoid patients.
