Abstract

Background: Bronchopneumonia is an infection or inflammation of the lungs that usually affects children. In 2016, the World Health Organization (WHO) reported that nearly 6 million children under five died, pneumonia was the cause of 15% of under-five deaths, which was estimated at 922,000 children under five in 2015. Indonesia alone, in 2015 there was an increase in the incidence of pneumonia to 63, 45% compared to the previous year where the incidence of pneumonia only ranged from 20%-30%. It is stated that pneumonia is the number 3 cause of death in children under five, which is 9.4% of the total deaths of children under five. Children with bronchopneumonia will experience respiratory problems caused by inflammation of the alveoli in the lungs. One way to overcome ineffective airway clearance can be through independent actions of nurses including chest physiotherapy (postural drainage and clapping). Objective: Describing the results of nursing care for the application of chest physiotherapy in children with bronchopneumonia with ineffective airway clearance in the Inayah Room of PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong Hospital. Method: This method used descriptive with case study approach. In this case study was 5 patients with cases of bronchopneumonia in children in the Inayah Room of PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong Hospital. Results of nursing care: The results of the application carried out on the five children with bronchopneumonia, all of them experienced a decrease in dyspnea and respiratory frequency after non-pharmacological therapy of chest physiotherapy. Recommendation: The results of this study can be a source for further researchers and serve as a reference for non-pharmacological therapy in children with bronchopneumonia with ineffective airway clearance problems
