Abstract
Background: Industry of limestone processing result in negative impacts on public health such as acute respiratory tract infection. The industry produces smoke that can be inhalated by under five years old and cause them difficult to take breath. Public health center of Rowokele reported that there were 2882 under five years old who had acute respiratory tract infection in 2015. Redisari village is one of the limestone processing industry. Objective: To determine correlation between the distance of house and limestone industry and the incidence of acute respiratory tract infection of under five years old in Redisari, Rowokele, Kebumen. Methods: This study used a correlational analytical method with cross sectional approach. There were 66 samples taken by purposive sampling technique. Data were analyzed using descriptive and correlative analysis by chi square test. Results: The majority of respondents were 3-5 years old (59.1%), and their mothers aged 20-35 years (66.7%). The distance of house and limestone industry were 50% as near category and the rest was also 50% as far category. The under five years old who suffered from acute respiratory tract infection were mild (48.5%), severe (27.3%), and mediocre (24.2%) categories. There were significant correlation between the distance of house and limestone industry and the incidence of acute respiratory tract infection of under five years old in Redisari, Rowokele, Kebumen with p value = 0.000 (<0.05).
