Abstract

Background: Stroke is a functional brain disease with sudden onset of symptoms, for a period of 24 hours or more, systemic and focal clinical signs will appear. Ischemia occurs because of a sudden disruption or decrease in blood supply to the brain which will cause a non-hemorrhagic stroke. Problems caused by non-hemorrhagic stroke are very complex in human life, one of which is the motor and sensory reflex disorders that will affect a person's functional activities, especially the upper extremities. Management of ROM can be done and starts from the acute phase of treatment to recovery. The upper extremities (hands) can be stimulated by practicing the gripping function in three stages, namely opening the fingers, closing the fingers, and adjusting the gripping power. Objective: This study was conducted to determine whether hook grip and cylindrical grip assistive active ROM are effectively used to help improve upper extremity muscle strength in non-hemorrhagic stroke patients. This research method: This research was a type of descriptive analysis research with nursing care methods. Active ROM assistive hook grip and cylindrical grip were performed twice a day in 5 days of treatment assessed using an observation sheet with a scale of muscle strength. Results: Study in 5 days of treatment of the 5 patients the majority of pre-exercise upper extremity muscle strength 3/3, post-upper extremity exercise became 4/4. The majority of patients feel that there is an increase in muscle strength in the thumb and other fingers even though they are not strong enough to grip, hold or lift heavy objects. Recommendations: For further researchers will be added nursing and medical interventions as other considerations.
