Abstract
Background: In Indonesia, pneumonia is the second leading cause of death in children under the age of 5 years. Ineffective airway clearance will increase with the buildup of secretions or mucus. The steam inhaler is a method of giving steam inhalation to thin out phlegm and help expel phlegm and make it easier to expel phlegm. Children who have received steam inhaler therapy will receive chest physiotherapy. Objectives: Providing nursing care for pediatric patients with pneumonia with ineffective airway clearance in the inpatient UPTD Puskesmas Madukara 1 Banjarnegara Methods: The research method is descriptive with a case study approach. The case study subjects to be studied were 5 pediatric pneumonia patients with ineffective airway clearance. The tools in this study were the nursing care format, Nursing Kit, steam inhaler SOP, and chest physiotherapy. Results: The results of the assessment of the five patients had the same chief complaint of ineffective airway clearance. The priority nursing diagnosis in Patient IV is ineffective airway clearance related to the accumulation of excess secretions. The nursing intervention to overcome ineffective airway clearance is airway management. The nursing implementation carried out is positioning the patient to maximize ventilation, auscultation of the breath, monitoring respiratory status and oxygenation, steam inhaler, and chest physiotherapy. The results of the nursing evaluation in the five patients showed that there was a decrease in signs and symptoms of ineffective airway clearance problems. Recommendation: The results of this nursing care can be used as a reference for the preparation of SOPs for the management of ineffective airway clearance in pediatric patients with pneumonia
