Abstract

Background: The main trigger of cardiovascular problems is Acute Coronary Syndrome (ACS). It is the cause of STEMI and acute pain complaints. Pain management with pharmacologic would have a side effect. Pharmacological and non-pharmacological can be applied together as a combination of nursing interventions to reduce the intensity of the pain sensation. Hand-foot massage is a nursing complementary recommended as lower pain sensation. Objective: To provide nursing care for patients with ST-Segment Elevation Acute Coronary Syndrome (STEMI) with acute pain. Research Methods: This study was a descriptive case study. According to inclusion criteria, five STEMI patients in the ICU ward of PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong Hospital joined in this study. They got pharmacology and hand-foot massage as non-pharmacology therapy. Direct interviews, observation sheets were applied by the nurse to get data from respondents. A numerical pain scale measured the pain scale of respondents. Results: Each respondent got pharmacology and non-pharmacology therapy for three days. The nurse added hand-foot massage as nursing complementary. It was given two times a day during 15-30 minutes each given to respondents. All respondents said their pain sensation experienced lower than before getting interventions (arrange six to three). Conclusion: Non-pharmacological such as hand-foot massage can support pharmacology therapy to reduce pain sensation in STEMI patients. Recommendation: Further study can apply other types of non-pharmacological therapy to reduce pain intensity.
