Abstract

Background: Anxiety often occurs in children while in hospital, one of the causes is medical and invasive procedures. Intravenous infusion causes stressors, pain, and scary for children. The impact of anxiety in pediatric patients results in trauma, failure, and injury. Non-pharma logical therapy to reduce anxiety levels for pediatric patients is music therapy that is calming, relaxing, and able to control anxiety. Objective: Giving nursing care to pediatric patients who have anxiety during getting intravenous procedure. Method: This study was a descriptive case study with a case study approach. The instruments study used the observation sheets and Chronic fatigue Syndrome scale. Five pediatric patients with anxiety when getting intravenous infusion were recruited as respondents. Mozart’s classical music was played by phone putting placed near the child as nursing actions. The music duration was twenty minutes with medium volume. Then, measurement of anxiety was conducted before and after getting intravenous infusion procedures. Result: The nursing problem of all respondents was anxiety related to the situational crisis. All respondents experienced a change in anxiety levels before and after getting intervention. The average anxiety levels of respondents before reaching intervention were severe (4), and after the given intervention was trivial levels (1). Conclusion: Music therapy can reduce anxiety levels in children pediatric patients during getting medical procedures.
