Abstract

Background: Tuberculosis (TB) is a primary disease in public health problems. Currently, pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) is still one of the priorities for eradicating the infectious disease. The clinical manifestations of tuberculosis (TB) patients are cough, fever and loss of weight. Purpose: To provide nursing care for patients with ineffective airway clearance problems. Method: The method used was a descriptive method with a case study approach. The instrument used nursing care documentation, Standard Operating Procedure of postural drainage position, and an ineffective airway clearance observation sheet. Data were obtained from interviews, physical examinations, and documentation studies. Subjects in the case study were five clients with ineffective airway clearance problems with inclusion criteria. Result: All respondents complained about shortness of breath and coughing up phlegm, but sputum did not appear. The majority of respondents were male, and they were of productive age. The priority nursing diagnosis of respondents was ineffective airway clearance. The nurse gave nursing interventions postural drainage and then evaluated whether there was a decrease in ineffective airway clearance problems symptoms. Recommendation: Postural drainage position can be used as a nursing intervention as supplement treatment in ineffective airway clearance of tuberculosis patients.
