Abstract
Background: Ischemic stroke occurs when a blood clot blocks or narrows an artery leading to the brain. A blood clot often forms in arteries damaged by the buildup of plaques (atherosclerosis). One of the nursing problems in this disease is cerebral perfusion pressure. Non-pharmacology therapy can be given for this patient, such as isometric handgrip exercise to overcome the patient's high blood pressure and muscular strength. Purpose: Providing nursing care to patients with cerebral perfusion pressure problems who suffered an ischemic stroke and applied isometric handgrip exercise as non-pharmacology therapy. Method: This study is a descriptive case study. A structured instrument, sphygmomanometer, and handgrip tool were used to support and got data in this study. The respondents were five patients with ischemic stroke, and the nurse provided nursing care for them in three days. The respondents tried isometric handgrip exercises every day, and each training was conducted for 15-20 minutes by respondents. Result: Five respondents got pharmacology and non-pharmacology. They experienced low blood pressure (average 5-10 mmHg). Respondents’ blood pressure measured before and after doing isometric handgrip exercises. Recommendation: Isometric handgrip exercises can conduct by post-stroke patients in their home three or five times a week.
