Abstract

Background : Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is a condition in which the prostate, a walnut sized body part made of glandular and muscular tissue, grows in size. It may be responsible for blocking the flow of urine out of the bladder and can cause issues in the bladder, urinary tract, or kidneys. The treatment of this problem is surgery. Before surgery, the patients experience anxiety commonly, and they need nursing intervention to reduce their anxiety levels. Objective : To provide nursing care for the pre operative phase of benign prostate hyperplasia patients and giving non-pharmacology therapy to anxious patients. Methods : This study was a descriptive case study. Five patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia in the preoperative phase were recruited as study respondents. The respondents experienced various anxiety. The nurse gave deep breathing and combinates Murrotal therapy to reduce anxious patients. The nurse measured the anxiety levels of respondents before and after treatment. Results : The average anxiety levels of respondents before treatment was in moderate levels. After the nurse gave deep breathing and Murrotal therapy, the anxiety levels of respondents reduced to mild anxiety. Range 10-19 digits lower than before treatment. Recommendation : The nurse can apply deep breathing and Murrotal therapy to patients who will undergo surgery significantly to reduce the anxiety levels of patients in the preoperative phase. Every treatment can be conducted twice for ten minutes.
