Abstract
Background: The development of LBW infants is at risk of experiencing delays in the process of severe physiological adaptation. One of the physiological adaptation processes that must be achieved in LBW is the thermoregulation, respiratory and cardiovascular systems. One of the non-pharmacological therapies used in LBW infants is kinesthetic tactic stimulation to stabilize body temperature, heart rate and respiration in infants with LBW. Objective: To explain nursing care by giving tactile kinesthetic stimulation on physiological development of low birth weight infants. Method: This research uses descriptive case study method. The subject of this research is LBW according to the criteria. The treatment is given by tactile kinesthetic stimulation by touching the LBW, with the variables measured are pulse frequency, respiratory frequency, and body temperature. Results: The main nursing diagnosis is ineffective breathing pattern related to neurological immaturity. Interventions: SLKI Breathing Pattern, Use of accessory muscles to breathe, chest wall retraction, respiratory rate. SIKI Airway management Monitor breathing pattern Monitor additional breath sounds Maintain patent airway Administer oxygen. Implementation: Tactile kinesthetic stimulation in LBW patients, by touching the LBW with a duration of 10 minutes, 5 minutes for tactile and 5 minutes for kinesthetic every day for once a day for 3 consecutive days. The evaluation of the five patients experienced significant changes within normal limits. The average physiological parameters for the temperature before the treatment was 35.4oC and after was 36oC, pulse 144 bpm became 146 bpm, respiration 48 tpm became 50 tpm. Conclusion: There is significant effect of giving kinesthetic tactile stimulation on changes of body temperature, pulse, and respiration
