Abstract

Background: Someone will feel a painful sensation after post-fracture and add it to surgical procedures like ORIF. Pain management by pharmacology therapy uses analgesic drugs. Cutaneous stimulation is one of non-pharmacology therapy. It uses a cold compress. A cold compress is a frozen or chilled material, such as an ice pack or a cool or wet washcloth. This method can give cold sensations in the area needed. Purpose: Giving nursing care to patients with impaired comfort after getting an ORIF surgery procedure. Method: This study was a descriptive case study with a cross-sectional approach. Respondents of this study were five postoperative patients who conducted ORIF surgery procedures. They all felt acute pain, and the nurse gave nursing care. A cold compress was given to all patients to decrease pain sensation and then measured by Verbal Descriptor Scale (VDS). The nurse observed patients’ responses to know the impact o therapy was effective or no. The nurse documented all finding data during the nursing implementation procedure. Result: The nursing assessment showed all patients had the main complaint, acute pain-related fracture. All patients were given analgesic drugs as pharmacology therapy and cold compress as non-pharmacology therapy. Patients experienced pain reduction. The average pain sensation of all patients was between 5 to 7 after getting pharmacology and non-pharmacology therapy. Recommendation: The study result can be recommended to nurses when caring for postoperative patients, especially patients with mild pain.
