Abstract

Background: Laparotomy surgery can cause problems, one of which is acute postoperative pain and 86% in moderate and severe categories. Poor pain management will result in decreased quality of life and prolong hospitalization. Treatments that can be done by nurses independently in the form of deep breathing therapy and dhikr. Objective: To describe nursing care analysis of post-laparotomy patients with acute pain in Prof. Dr. Margono Soekarjo Hospital of Purwokerto. Methods: The study used descriptive method with case study approach. The instruments used nursing care formats, deep breathing standard operating procedure (SOP), and pain assessment observation sheets. Data were obtained by interviews, physical examination and documentation study. Subjects consisted of 5 post laparotomy patients with acute pain. Results: The results of the assessment in post-laparotomy patients found that the main complaint was pain in the postoperative area. Priority nursing diagnosis i.e. acute pain related to physical injuring agent. The intervention carried out was pain management with deep breathing therapy and dhikr. The implementation carried out was pain management by assessing pain thoroughly (PQRST), teaching non-pharmacological techniques to reduce pain, namely deep breathing and dhikr. The evaluation of the five respondents showed decrease of pain scale measured using Numeric Rating Scale (NRS), Recommendation: Deep breathing therapy and dhikr can be used as reference for intervention to reduce post-laparotomy pain.
