Abstract

Background: The disease that often occurs in the elderly is hypertension. Hypertension of the elderly is an increase of systolic blood pressure >160 mmHg and diastolic pressure >90 mmHg. One of the symptoms caused by an increase in blood pressure is pain. Pain management in hypertensive patients can be done through nursing care. One of them with slow deep breathing intervention. Objective: To explain gerontic nursing care of hypertensive elderly with chronic pain by giving slow deep breathing therapy in Pekuncen, Sempor, Kebumen. Methods: The research method was descriptive with a case study approach. The Subjects were 5 hypertension patients with chronic pain. The tools were nursing care formats, nursing kits, pain level observation sheets and SOPs for Slow Deep Breathing therapy. Presentation of data was by having conclusions based on subjective and objective data, which was presented on the documentation method and nursing care resume Results: There was decrease of pain scale after nursing treatment were carried out with the application of slow deep breathing therapy. The first patient experienced 40% decrease of pain scale. The second experienced 75% reduction, the third experienced 83% reduction, the fourth experienced 80% reduction, and the fifth experienced 66% reduction. Recommendation: The results can be used for public health center as reference to prepare SOPs for the management of chronic pain reduction using slow deep breathing therapy.
