Abstract

Background: BPH (Benign Prostate Hyperplasia) is a type of benign tumor that often occurs in elderly men. TURP surgery on someone who has Benign Prostate Hyperplasia (BPH) can cause acute pain nursing problems after surgery. Independent nursing actions that can be carried out by nurses are guidance imagery techniques and classical music therapy. Objective: To find out the results of the analysis of the application of guidance imagery techniques and classical music therapy to post TURP BPH patients with acute pain. Methods: This final scientific paper used a descriptive method with a case study approach. Data were obtained from interviews, physical examinations, and pain assessment observation sheets. The selected subjects consisted of 5 postoperative TURP BPH patients who had acute pain. Results: The results of the assessment that has been carried out on post TURP BPH patients found the main nursing problem was acute pain. Nursing interventions were pain management with guidance imagery technique and classical music therapy. After having intervention the five patients experienced change in pain level from moderate pain scale to mild one. Recommendation: It is recommended that nurses can use guidance imagery technique and classical music therapy as non-pharmacological management to reduce pain of post TURP BPH patients.
