Abstract
Background Diabetes mellitus is a disease of hyperglycemia due to insulin deficiency. In diabetes mellitus glucose that enters the cells cannot be processed into energy, resulting in an increase in blood sugar levels (hyperglycemia). The causes of diabetes mellitus are heredity, obesity, age > 50 years, unhealthy lifestyle. Providing pharmacist counseling to patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus is very important because it can increase patient knowledge, improve patient quality of life. Purpose of the study was to determine the effect of pharmacist counseling on the level of knowledge of type 2 diabetes mellitus outpatients at Puskesmas 01 Nusawungu. Method used is non-probability sampling with total sampling, with a total of 40 respondents with inclusion and exclusion criteria. Results of the study using the Wilcoxon test showed that there were differences in values before and after counseling by pharmacists for type 2 diabetes mellitus patients with a significance value of 0.000 (p value <0.05). Conclusion in this study is that counseling by pharmacists can increase the knowledge of type 2 diabetes mellitus patients. Suggestions need to be re-examined about the effective duration of counseling pharmacists to increase patient knowledge.
