Abstract

Background: Play therapy is an activity where children can perform or practice skills, give expression to thoughts, be creative, as for the types of games that can be done at preschooler's age, such as, building blocks, drawing, folding paper, playing marbles, one of the games suitable for preschool age is folding origami paper, where children begin to recognize the shapes of objects around them. Origami is a game by forming a paper from origami paper that trains children to be creative with shapes and can also provide a sense of fun because basically preschoolers have been very active and imaginative even though the child is still undergoing treatment at the hospital. Authors' Purpose: This case study illustrates nursing care by applying origami play therapy to reduce anxiety of hospitalization and fine motor training in children in hospital. Writing Method: This paper uses a descriptive analytical method of case studies, the subjects are 2 preschool age children (3-6 years old) who are given origami play therapy using origami paper forming a work with origami paper forming transportation and animals, which is done during 3 meetings, an instrument for measuring anxiety levels using Facial Image Scale. Results: Origami play therapy was proven to be an effective therapy to reduce the anxiety of hospitalization and fine motor training in preschool children. Recommendations: Health workers or educators should use origami play therapy as one of the treatment options to reduce the anxiety of hospitalization and to practice fine motor skills in preschool children.
