Abstract
Background Hypertension is a condition in which a person has an increase in blood pressure above normal, resulting in an increase in mordibity and mortality, systolic blood pressure of 140 mmHg and diastolic 90 mmHg indicating the phase of blood returning to the heart. Patients who have hypertension will get worse if the patient experiences anxiety. Anxiety is a subjective experience of an individual and cannot be observed directly and is an emotional state without a specific object. Anxiety in hypertensive patients can be overcome with non-pharmacological therapy. One of the therapies that can be used to reduce anxiety is Progressive Muscle Relaxation (PMR). PMR or progressive muscle relaxation is a technique that focuses on relaxing and stretching the muscles in a relaxed state. Progressive Muscle Relaxation exercise therapy (PMR) involves the contraction and relaxation of various muscle groups starting from the legs upward or from the head downwards, to relax the muscles progressively, begins by tensing and stretching the major muscle groups of the body. The result showed a decrease in anxiety in each patient from the HADS value of 15-11. Research purposes : To determine the effectiveness of Progressive muscle relaxation therapy on anxiety levels in hypertensive patients. Research methods : This paper uses a descriptive case study design, the case study subjects are 3 clients who experience anxiety in hypertensive patients, with nursing anxiety problems, data collection using observation techniques, interviews and documentation studies Result: After doing Progressive Muscle Relaxation nursing action (PMR) for approximately 20 minutes for 3 days in patients with nursing problems that appeared in these three clients was anxiety. The results of the observation for 3 days showed a decrease in anxiety indicated by a decrease in the HADS scale. Recommendation : combination of generalist therapy and progressive mescle relaxation can be recommended to reduce anxiety in hypertensive patients,
