Abstract

Background: Dental and oral health problems in children that are often encountered are dental caries. The impact of dental caries can affect the growth and development of children, namely the teeth become porous, cavities and even broken which causes the child to lose chewing power so that it affects the digestive process. For children 4-6 years old, the role of parents is needed to nurture, educate, encourage and supervise so that children can maintain oral hygiene. Objective: To determine the relationship between the mother's role and the incidence of dental caries in children Methods: This study used a correlative quantitative method with a cross sectional approach. The samples in this study were children aged 4-6 years and their mothers in Sekarteja Village, Caruban Village, Sugihwaras Village, Kemujan Village, Adimulyo District, Kebumen Regency, a total of 101 were taken by total sampling. The research instrument used a questionnaire on the mother's role and a dental caries observation sheet. Data analysis using chi-square test Research Results: The results of this study indicate that most of the mother's role is negative with a frequency (51,5%) and children who experience dental caries with a frequency (63,4%) The results of statistical tests with chi-square test obtained p value = 0,000 ( p 0,05) so it can be said that there is a relationship Conclusion: There is a relationship between the mother's role and the incidence of dental caries in children Recommendation: Future researchers are expected to conduct research with different variables, namely internal factors (host, substrate, food, and time) that cause dental caries in children.
