Abstract
Background: In general, when someone suffers from hypertension, there will be an increase in blood pressure that is more than normal and usually signs and symptoms will appear, one of which is sore throat. One of the relaxation therapies used to reduce pain intensity is Slow Deep Breathing (SDB). In addition to slow deep breathing, one of the non-pharmacological therapies used for hypertension is foot massage. Objective: To provide nursing care by giving slow deep breathing and foot massage to hypertensive patients with acute pain at PKU Muhammadiyah Hospital of Gombong. Methods: The research method was descriptive with case study approach. The subjects were 5 hypertensive patients with acute pain. The tools were the nursing care format, Nursing Kit, slow deep breathing SOP and foot massage. The pain measurement tool was Numeric Rating Scale (NRS). Presentation of data was based on subjective and objective data, which was presented in the documentation method and nursing care resume. Results: The results of the assessment carried out on hypertensive patients obtained data that the main complaint felt was acute pain in both the head and neck. Priority nursing diagnosis of hypertensive patients was acute pain related to disease (hypertension). The nursing interventions carried out were assessing the pain scale, measuring vital signs, giving slow deep breathing, and foot massage to reduce pain. The nursing implementation carried out were assessing the pain scale, measuring vital signs, giving Slow Deep Breathing, and massage to reduce pain. The results showed that Patient I experienced 3 scales of pain reduction and 40 mmHg decrease of systolic. Patient II experienced 3 scales of pain reduction and 50 mmHg decrease of systolic. Patient III experienced 2 scales of pain reduction and 50 mmHg decrease of systolic. Patient IV experienced 3 pain reduction scales and 48 mmHg decrease of systolic. Patient IV experienced 3 pain reduction scales and 50 mmHg decrease of systolic. The combination of Slow Deep Breathing and foot massage was effective to reduce pain and blood pressure of hypertensive patients. Recommendation: The combination of slow deep breathing and foot massage can be used to overcome hypertension as complementary therapy that is cheap and easy one to be carried out independently.
