Abstract
Background: According to WHO 2017, the number of elderly people in the world is around 617 million people, 34.2% of the elderly suffer from gout and the number continues to increase.The number of patients with gout in Indonesia is 11.9%. %). Thera are 6.78% gout sufferers in Central Java Province. One therapy that can be applied to people with gout is a ginger compress. Ginger compress is an effective intervention to reduce pain, because the warm feeling in ginger can launch blood vessels so that it can reduce pain. Objective: Describing the results of the application of family nursing care having elderly with gout resulting in pain given ginger compress therapy. Method: This scientific work uses a descriptive method with a case study approach. The samples are 5 elderly people who are in the stage of development of elderly families who experience gout pain. Case study instrument are using ginger compress standard operating procedure (SOP), observation sheet of Numerical Rating Scale (NRS). Results: Nursing diagnosis was acute pain related to physiological injury agent. Nursing interventions carried out were ginger compresses for 3 days every 15-20 minutes. Nursing evaluations obtained were the average pain scale before the therapy was 6.8 while after it the average pain scale was 5 meaning there was a significant decrease. Recommendation: The results of this nursing care can be used as a treatment for gout pain by using non-pharmacological methods, namely ginger compress.
