Abstract
Background: After ORIF surgery, patients will experience severe pain due to skeletal trauma and surgery performed on muscles, bones, or joints. One of the relaxation therapies used to reduce pain intensity is Slow Deep Breathing (SDB). In addition to slow deep breathing, one of the nonpharmacological therapies used to reduce pain intensity is lavender aromatherapy. Purpose: to explain nursing care, the application of a combination of slow deep breathing and lavender aromatherapy in post operation patients with Open Reduction Internal Fixation for lower extremity fractures with acute pain in Prof. dr. Margono Soekarjo hospitals Purwokerto Methods: The research method is descriptive with a case study approach. The case study subjects that will be studied are 5 postoperative patients with open reduction internal fixation fractures of the lower extremities with acute pain. The tools in this study were the nursing care format, the Nursing Kit, and the acute pain symptom assessment format. Results: The results of the study showed that the five patients had the same chief complaint of acute postoperative pain with Open Reduction Internal Fixation for lower extremity fractures. The priority nursing diagnosis for Patient IV is acute pain. Client I said pain in the thigh on a scale of 7, Client II said pain in the right thigh on a scale of 7. Client III said pain in the right thigh after scale 7 surgery. Client IV said pain in the right thigh after scale surgery 6. Client IV said pain in the right thigh after surgery on a scale of 6. The nursing intervention carried out was pain management. The nursing implementation is pain management and a combination of slow deep breathing and lavender aromatherapy. The results of the nursing evaluation on the five patients showed a decrease in the pain scale after the combination of slow deep breathing and lavender aromatherapy was carried out. Patients experienced an average pain reduction of 1 scale. Recommendation: Nurses can provide knowledge about the benefits and ways of slow deep breathing with lavender aromatherapy for postoperative pain management Open Reduction Internal Fixation for lower extremity fractures in patients so that patients can apply it independently.
