Abstract

Background: In developing countries such as Indonesia, heart failure is one of the health problems that continues to increase. Heart failure patients can have nursing problems such as ineffective breathing patterns. The recommended independent nursing intervention is to position the semi-Fowler or Fowler. In patients with heart failure, breathing exercises using the pursed lips breathing method can also be performed with the aim of maximizing pulmonary ventilation. Objectives: To explain the analysis of nursing care for clients with nursing problems with ineffective breathing patterns in the ICU room at PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong Hospital. Methods: This research uses descriptive case study method. The subjects of this study were Congestive Heart Failure (CHF) patients according to the criteria. Result: The assessment was carried out on five Congestive Heart Failure (CHF) patients. From the results of the analysis of the data obtained, the authors conclude that the priority of nursing diagnoses is the ineffective breathing pattern. After the action of giving the semi-Fowler position and breathing exercises using the pursed lips breathing method for 3 days, it was found that there was a decrease in respiratory rate (RR) in Congestive Heart Failure (CHF) patients who experienced shortness of breath in the ICU room of PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong Hospital. Conclusion: There is an effect of giving the semi-Fowler position and pursed lips breathing exercise to decrease the respiratory rate (RR) in Congestive Heart Failure (CHF) patients in the ICU room of PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong Hospital. Recommendation: The action of pursed lips breathing exercise can be more applied to CHF patients who experience shortness of breath. Future researchers are expected to be able to apply pursed lips breathing exercise to patients other than CHF who experience shortness of breath
