Abstract

Background: Thalassemia is a chronic disease that is autosomal recessive, which is a disease that is inherited from parents in its production, which is a deficiency of polypeptide chain synthesis that affects bone marrow hemoglobin with clinical manifestations of severe anemia. In children, Thalassemia not only causes physical problems, but also causes psychosocial problems. Physical changes that occur can have a psychological impact on the patient. Children with thalassemia feel different from other children, feel limited in their activities, experience social isolation, have low self-esteem and feel anxious about illness and the possible side effects Purpose: This case study aims to explain nursing care in Thalassemia patients with anxiety through the application of play therapy in the Aster room of the Majenang Hospital Method: This scientific work uses a descriptive method with a case study approach on 5 Thalassemia patients who experience anxiety. Measurement of anxiety using the instrument Face Image Scale (FIS). The nursing care process was carried out for three days with the provision of play therapy 1 time. Each client is given play therapy for 15-20 minutes. Result: Showing a decrease in signs and symptoms of anxiety an average of 1.8 . Almost all (80%) clients experienced a decrease in their level of anxiety from a scale of 3 (moderate) to a scale of 1 (no anxiety). Almost all clients (80%) experienced an increase in their ability to do play therapy from 1 to 2. Recommendation: Play therapy can be used to overcome the anxiety of pediatric patients.
