Abstract

Background: Head injury is a mechanical injury that directly or indirectly affects the head and damages brain tissue which results in neurological disorders that cause pain. Head injury patients are experiencing headaches, several studies have found that 38% of injured patients develop acute post traumatic headache (ATPH) with headache symptoms from 3 days to 1 week. The pain felt by the patient can be controlled pharmacologically or non-pharmacologically. Pharmacologically the patient is given anti-pain drugs or pain relievers. One of the non-pharmacological methods of pain management is using an imaginary guide. Objective: to provide nursing care for the application of guide imagery relaxation to head injury patients with acute pain in the ICU Room of RSUD dr. Sudirman Kebumen. Method: descriptive with a case study approach. The case study subjects that will be studied are 5 head injury patients with acute pain. The tools in this study were the nursing care format, Nursing Kit, SOP guide imagery relaxation and the acute pain symptom assessment format. Presentation of data that the author does by drawing conclusions based on subjective and objective data, which is presented in the documentation method and nursing care resume Results: The results of the study showed that all five patients had the same chief complaint of acute pain. The priority nursing diagnosis in Patients I-V is acute pain as evidenced by the five patients who complain of pain on a scale of 6-7. Nursing interventions that are carried out are pain management and Guided Imagery. The nursing implementation is pain management. In addition to pain management, the authors also apply Guided Imagery therapy. The results of the nursing evaluation in Patients I-V showed a decrease in pain symptoms after Guided Imagery was performed. Patient 1 experienced a decrease in pain scale 4. Patient II experienced a decrease in pain scale 2. Patient III experienced a decrease in pain scale 2. Patient IV experienced a decrease in pain scale 3. Patient V experienced a decrease in pain scale 2. Recommendation: The results of this nursing care can be used as a reference for the preparation of non-pharmacological pain management SOPs for head injury patients who experience acute pain
