Abstract

Background : The spike in cases due to uncontrolled Covid-19 forces health workers to prepare physically and mentally to provide optimal care for patients. The high risk of contracting, fatigue, stress due to high work rates, environmental punishment, psychological, physical and mental changes in health workers, especially nurses, is inevitable. Objective: Determining the experience of nurses during care for Covid-19 patients in the isolation room of PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong Hospital. Method: This study used qualitative method with a phenomenological approach. Data retrieval was conducted using purposive sampling techniques with in depth interview method, during the process of data retrieval research only conducted one interview on each participant, in this study the saturation of data occurred in the ninth participant so that the number samples in the study as many as nine participants. The characteristics of the participants used demographic data quantitatively but analyzed qualitatively. The length of the interview process in each participant is between 45-60 minutes, the data obtained will be analyzed by qualitative research where researchers act as data analyzers. Research Results: Based on the research that has been done obtained five main themes, namely: (1) Changes experienced, consisting of 1 sub theme namely loss and grieving process new patterns in work, (2) Biopsychosociospiritual changes consisting of 4 sub themes: biological changes, psychological changes, social changes, spiritual changes, (3) coping mechanisms consist of 3 categories, namely: efforts to reduce stress , creating comfort work and efforts to maintain immunity, (4) Support and motivation during work consists of 4 categories, namely: positive support from people nearby, support of internal motivational colleagues, and external motivation. Conclusion: Based on the results of this study obtained four themes related to the experience of nurses, namely: changes experienced, biopsychosociospiritual changes, coping mechanisms and support and motivation in work. Recommendation: The Next suggestion for researchers is to be able to identify more widely related to current condition of nurses during the Covid-19 pandemic and the limitations in this study can be modified so that the research process can run better.
