Abstract

Background: Patient safety in hospitals is the focus of research and major international concern. The emergency department is a unit in a hospital with a high clinical risk area that prioritizes the implementation of patient safety and discipline. Patient safety culture is the foundation in achieving patient safety and incident prevention. Objective: To describe the implementation of patient safety culture on nurses in the Emergency Installation of PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong Hospital. Methods: Descriptive quantitative with a cross-sectional. The number of samples were 21 respondents. The technique used total sampling. Data collected using the Hospital Survey on Patient Safety Culture from AHRQ. Data analysis used analysis univariate. Results: Showing an overview of patient safety culture in nurses in the dimensions of open communication and management support for patient safety had the highest percentage of positive responses 94% and the lowest negative responses 6%. The positive response of handoff 77% and the negative response was 13%. The positive response of the reporting frequency dimension was 65% and the negative response was 35%. The highest negative response was in the dimension of the non-blame response 59% and the lowest positive response was 41%. Conclusion: The implementation of patient safety culture for nurses in the emergency room of PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong Hospital which is considered a strong culture was the dimensions of open communication, handoff, and management support. The dimension of non-blame response was weak in culture, and the frequency of reporting actual incidents was moderate. Recommendation: Future researchers are expected to be able to measure patient safety culture in all hospital staff.
