Abstract

Background: Hypertension is a condition in which blood vessels continuously experience increased pressure. One of the symptoms of hypertension is pain in the neck and head. Non-pharmacological therapy that can be used to reduce signs and symptoms of hypertension is Slow Deep Breathing (SDB) exercises. Objective: To describe the results of nursing care for the application of slow deep breathing in hypertensive patients with acute pain in the emergency room at PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong Hospital. Methods: This paper uses a descriptive method with a case study approach. The case study instrument uses a nursing care format, SOP for Slow Deep Breathing (SDB) exercise, SOP for measuring acute pain in hypertensive patients. Subjects consisted of 3 hypertension patients. The data were analyzed descriptively on nursing care. Results: The main complaint felt in Patients I-III was acute pain in both the head and neck. The priority nursing diagnosis in this case study is acute pain related to disease (hypertension). The nursing interventions and implementations carried out were assessing the pain scale, measuring vital signs, giving Slow Deep Breathing to reduce pain. The evaluation showed that the problem of hypertension with acute pain was resolved with the following indications: reported increased pain control, increased ability to use nonpharmacological techniques. Slow deep breathing is effective in reducing pain in hypertensive patients. Patient 1 experienced a decrease in pain scale 2. Patient II experienced a decrease in pain scale 2. Patient III experienced a decrease in pain scale 1. Recommendation: It is hoped that it can be used as a useful source of knowledge about the effect of Slow Deep Breathing on reducing pain in hypertensive patients
