Abstract

Background: One of the family health problems that is often experienced is diarrhea. Health promotion and the application of six steps of hand washing with soap can increase knowledge and reduce the risk of diarrheas in school-age families. A total of 17.172 (46,3%) children under the age of five in Central Java had diarrhea. Objective: To provide an overview of family nursing care with the application of hand washing in assisted families with PHBS knowledge and hand washing knowledge that still needs to be improved. Methods: This study used a descriptive case study method that describes the results in a narrative. Respondents’ criteria were the first child who was seven years old, both male and female, residing in the same area, and families with low handwashing knowledge. Research data obtained from observation, assessment, and interviews. Results: there was an increase in the three assisted families after the implementation of six steps of hand washing. Recommendation: The application of hand washing can be carried out at home and in the community to improve clean and healthy behavior.
